Hello, I’m Morgen Fleisig, and I’m running for Mayor.
It has been an honor to serve you as your Village Trustee, and I’m asking you now to consider me for Mayor. I’m grateful to all the volunteers who carried my petitions, and everyone who signed them—we collected nearly twice the signatures required to get me on the June 24th Primary ballot! If elected, I will continue working for you as a steward of our Village, its natural environment, and the remarkable progress we’ve made together over these past six years.
My Top Priorities for Hastings:
● Our Waterfront
● Stronger Infrastructure
● Thriving Parks
● Our Downtown
● A Community for All
Our Waterfront. Its potential is tremendous, and every time I look across it, I can easily imagine our thriving community set against that epic backdrop. I’m an architect and I’ve been a part of many projects as complex as our Village, and they give me the confidence that we can manage the redevelopment of these 42 acres in ways that will improve the quality of our lives and reconnect us to the river. In the short term, I see MacEachron Park rebuilt, with better amenities and higher so it is less prone to flooding. In the medium term, I see the cleanup of BP ARCO’s property beginning, as well as a new bridge across the tracks reconnecting the two clean southern parcels to the Village. Redevelopment could begin there sooner, and in the long term, I see the redevelopment of BP ARCO’s property as well, all preserving our views of the Palisades and the New York skyline, with new parks inviting us down to the River.
Stronger Infrastructure. I grew up in Upstate New York and I love it—I love its beauty, its vast resources, its history—and with that comes my belief that we’re all stewards…of our State, our County, and our Village. I answered that calling working with the State to create a new Ravensdale Bridge that would be a welcoming Village Gateway, and as well to ensure that Broadway is a safer road. I’m answering that call when I work to help prepare our Village for the changing climate: maintaining and modernizing our streets and culverts, keeping stormwater where it belongs—in our parks where it’s nourishing our native plants, not flooding our homes. Hastings needs 21st-century infrastructure – let’s fix what’s broken and prepare for the changes we know are coming.
Thriving Parks. I also care about getting more people back into our parks. They’re a great way to move our kids off their screens and back outside. More investment in our parks is a clear path to attract them there. Investment in beautiful places for all ages to enjoy and native habitat for all species to flourish will also draw more people to our Village. Our local downtown businesses would also prosper from more visitors.
Our Downtown. We are all proud of our charming downtown, and it would be even more vibrant if our local businesses had foot traffic not just from more visitors, but from more residents too. We can have sensitive zoning that encourages smaller apartments within walking distance of those stores, allowing people to downsize if they wish and remain in Hastings near their friends and family. This will help Hastings become more affordable, and that has always been important to me: I’m proud to have served in an administration that has held the line on taxes, and as your Mayor I intend to continue keeping my eye on our fiscal stewardship.
A Community For All. I value Hastings as a community where people come first. It’s a place where we can be outspoken in our views, but also willing to defend each other and our rights. I will always work to ensure that we see each other as neighbors, despite our differences. Professionally and personally, I strive to treat everyone with respect and build consensus with those on other sides of issues. As Mayor, I see myself as someone who will listen and lead responsively: I am committed to working with everyone to get to yes.
I’m here, now, asking for your support, and ultimately your vote because I want to make Hastings better, stronger, and safer for everyone. If you choose me to be your Mayor, I’ll fight for everyone to speak their minds, listen to every voice, and nurture the best our Village has to offer.
Thank you for reading, and if you have questions, please reach out to me at Morgen@FleisigForHastings.com. I’ll do my best to respond quickly and clearly.
STRONGER INFRASTRUCTURE
Paved, curbed, and well-maintained streets. Stormwater where it belongs—in parks, nourishing native plants, not flooding homes.
THRIVING PARKS
More trails, sculptures, and places to play. Not just football, baseball, and soccer—skating, pickleball, and frisbee too. Parks that bring people together and boost local businesses.
A SMARTER WATERFRONT
A gateway to the River that protects our views. Sustainable development we control—not the other way around.
A COMMUNITY FOR ALL
Our Village is a place where people come first. Where we see each other before our differences. Where we embrace our differences, and defend our rights.
